Bang the papaya

Having spent 7 days 6 nights in Bangkok and Pattaya with my colleagues, i've learnt to appreciate Singapore so much more.

The bug infested beds, errie-looking bathroom, sea-sickness, dao services from the people of land of smiles, and the so called 'floating market which involved only 2 boats selling thai keychains and such is so... speechless that come to think of it, it's quite hilraious!

It makes me love Chiangmai even more.

Okie lah i guess it's just not my kind of holiday.

Day 1:

I'm sold to Cathay Pacific's in flight entertainment (TV)! I've caught Victoria Beckham's reality show in US within the 2 hour flight and i wished my flight was a longer one! The Hagen Das raspberry ice cream's yummy too!

Touchdown at Bangkok international airport.
The crew from left to right: Emily, Faith, Lisan, Cheryl, me, Merisa and Xinhui.

Sunset in Bangkok from my hotel. One of my favourite shot from the entire trip.

After a couple hours of shopping at Siam Square, we headed to Siam center's food court for dinner. The food courts in Bangkok out Singapore's to shame. They're superbly high class!

Day 2:

Boat ride to Temple of Dawn, one of the oldest temple in Bangkok.

It's really fascinating to see the old temples / churches / condos / schools and houses by the river banks. Such good view sia. But it's a sad thing that Bangkok is facing flooding problems, similar to Venice. It was said that Bangkok will be submerged under water 20 years later.

Temple of Dawn behind me! This photo does not do any justice to the real temple at all. It's extremely tall and steep and majestic. But we didn't go up the temple cause they charged and none of us wanna pay. Haha.

Some other temple which doesn't require entrance fee. Lol.

Another shot that i really like.

We bought some bread to feed the fishes from another temple by the river banks. Due to Buddhism these fishes by the temple are spared from fishing. They're humongous!

In the middle of the boat ride, we were then approached by 2 sampan boats selling thai souvenirs (keychains / pens...etc) and our tour guide heipily annouced that this's the famous 'floating market'.

What a HOAX! 2 sampan boats do not = to the floating market loh.
I was so looking forward to the floating market. :( What a disappointment. I was still kinda hopping that he was kidding.

We were then brought to a leather factory where they sell leather products from cows _||_, ostriches, crocs... and even elephants! Such a turn off when i see the huge elephant skins with all kinds of doodling from other visitors. :/

Then we headed to another company where they sell honey related product (honey, bee pollen, royal jelly... etc), where we all spend at fortune buying those jars of royal jelly. Ahh. :/ That's the disadvantages of traveling with a group of females i guess. But hopefully my pa's been taking those royal jelly regularly!

Anyway do you know you can cook an egg with honey??? So weird.

And finally we're on our way to Pattaya!
We stopped at the Tiger Zoo where we watched the crocodiles show:

Which's quite tormenting to watch. Those 'put your head into the croc mouth', 'kiss the croc' acts are really too much for my weak heart. But still gotta give it up to those courageous two kids.

The next pigs show / race was much more entertaining!
But that's where we came face to face with those scary Korean aunties. Oh my goodness they've totally destroyed the hard earned impression of Koreans! Forget Korean dramas, these aunties armed with their plastic visors and permed hairdos, they're even more kiasu than Singaporeans can. They will push or squeezed their way just to get that little bit of space to watch those racing pigs. Literally. Aunties. From. Hell. Argh!

Anyway, the adorable piggys!

The Thais like to mix up the animals' parentage too. Here's Mama pig with baby tiger.

And Mama tiger (still napping) with baby piggys dressed in tiger outfits. Not sure if they're for laugh or protection. :/

Finally we've reached Pattaya, the land of go-go bars!
This the statue outside the infamous 'ah gua' show which we didn't manage to catch it and went shopping instead. Maybe next time!

Sunset at Pattaya.

After shopping we went for a massage! My massager turns out to be a fierec looking woman who's damn hostile lah. Damn suay. But i guess she's just pmsing and feeling unconfident. After a few attempts to chat with her, she became scarily friendly. :/

It was also Cheryl's birthday so we celebrated her birthday at the Turkish restaurant just outside our hotel. Tried Sheesha for the 1st time and i can't even exhale properly. If Kai's there he would have call me noob shit already. :/ But Sheesha turns out to be okie lah.

Day 3:

Slept only a couple of hours and woke up to Cheryl's complains and a whole body of rashes.
Bed bugs!

Off to Coral Island, another famous beach 45mins away from Pattaya.
This's where i get really seasick and miserable. We stopped halfway to this parachuting station situated in out of nowhere in the sea for people to try jet parachuting. My pa tried it during our last Phuket trip and i'm really inspired to try it too but i'm seriously too sick / depress to try anything. :/

On the boat for the underwater trip!

I was expecting some glass submarine but it turns out (yet another hoax!) to be another sampan boat! We were taken to the deeper side of the sea and removed the wooden planks underneath our feet, where we found the glass panals below. And in order to see the view underneath clearly, we were told to bend down and cover our surrounding with towels. -_-"

It's so ridiculous that i wanna laugh!

Went back to our Pattaya hotle to wash up and off we go to Noong Noong Village. Watched some cultural Thai show that decipts the history and culture of Thailand and the baby elephants were extremely adorable! Faith quarrelled with a couple of Indian tourist and Korean aunties who kept blocking my seat when they couldn't get seats themselves. Damn annoying. The smart ass Korean auntie arrogantly mumble a whole load of Korean when we demanded her to either get lost or sit down on the pavement.

A nervous me feeding a baby tiger. Feels very much like an affectionate dog actually.

As much as i enjoyed watching those tigers up close, the poor tigers were chained up and their claws grinded away. Feel kinda sad for these victims of tourism gimmicks.

Thai Macdonald has Mcpork!

Day four: We booked out from our crappy hotel with more bug bites and back to Bangkok. How we missed our Bangkok hotel!

We were brought to the Thai's theme park, Dreamland where we spend 4 stupid hours wandering around...

Us on some Grand Canyon ride.

Boot house with a old woman / machine inside!

Hansel and Gretle's candy house.

Some giant with its legs wide open.

L.O.V.E

Day 5: Chatuchak Market!

Chatuchak turns to be quite okie lah. I still don't understand how Annabel could spend S$300 at Chatuchak within a day. I like they're designer district best!

But it's quite agonising to walk through the enormous Chatuchak market for 4 hours with those itchy bleeding bug bites and warm weather. My clothes were entirely soaked in my sweat.

Headed to MaboonKong (MBK) shopping centre where we had dinner at their famous high class food court that resemble Marche! And having carried my fake LV bag for so many days, i've finally bought myself a blue luggage! 360 degree wheels okie!

Day 6: Last day of shopping! Headed to Byoke Sky where i was officially declared bankrupt!
Ahh my very first time having spend every single penny on a vacation! Hai... :/

So i spend the rest of the day watching others shop at the famous Siam Centre, Siam Discovery Center and Siam Paragon instead.

Oh well, on the bright side, we had dinner at one of my favourite Thai restuarant - MK steamboat!

And these are my buys (more like damages...)

Notice that only the middle column (the grey with yellow stripes shirt) are stuffs i bought for myself (plus my blue luggage at the left corner. The rest are stuffs for friends and family. T_T

Buys that caused the most damages - local food products. -_-
I told myself that if i were to eat them, i'll keep them in my stomach for at least 5 hours before shitting them out.

Day 7:

Last shot with our beloved Bangkok hotel room.

And our hotel.

Caught up in the notorious Bangkok traffic jam on our way to the airport, i discovered that i've left my wallet in the hotel! God. Help. Me.

Got down from the mini van with Merisa and we travelled back to the hotel in another cab. We almost missed our flight and i was so upset with myself that i kept praying for us to make it for the airport on time. The cab fare's really shocking and i can only blame my stupid self for this God-why-did-i-do-that mistakes. :(

And yes we made it! So heipi to back in Singapore! Annabel came to fetch me and i was so glad to see my twin that i wanted to tear again.

But she demanded that i bathe and consult the doctor on my bug bites and itchy head. Sheesh.

Overall it was quite a fruitful trip with my colleagues but don't think i will want to visit Bangkok for the next 2 years. Unless someone's willing to sponsor me. :/ Haha.

Land of the thousand smiles

off to the land of thousand smiles (aka thousand shops and naughty bars) i go
armed with my beloved cameras and a self help book to keep me in sane
as well as my darling DS to wart off the lonliness

i promise to try my hardest to enjoy myself and not to bankrupt myself.
To charm them (as quoted from may)
to relax myself
to truly be comfortable and accepted

but i'll still miss Singapore many because my beloveds aren't by my side. Ahhh.
thank Kai May and Fang for your encouragement and i'll try to bear them in mind.

off to the land of thousand smiles...

i wanna grow old with you.

When i first heard the song from a wedding photographer's online portfolio, i thought the song was really simple but sweet to the core.
And my colleague's wedding montage and ringtone got me even more attracted to it ahhh.

I wanna make you smile,
Whenever you're sad.
Carry you around when your arthritis is bad.
All I wanna do,
Is grow old with you.

I'll get you medicine,
When your tummy aches.
Build you a fire if the furnace breaks.
Oh it could be so nice,
Growin' old with you.

I'll miss you, kiss you,
Give you my coat when you are cold.
Need you, feed you.
Even let you hold the remote control.
So let me do the dishes in our kitchen sink.
Put you to bed when you've had too much to drink.
Oh I could be the man,
Who grows old with you.

I wanna grow old with you.

I wanna grow old with you - Adam Sandler

How many people really feel that way when they're going to marry their beloved?

AHHH the song is so so sweet that my eyes are turning red ahhhhh.

We're half a world away.

It may be a motorbike ride or the smell of petrol oil.
It may be some food that can instantly bring tears to my eyes.

It may be a nice breezy afternoon with the wind brushing through my hair.

It may be some cheesy China Doll song, or some authentic Thai music.

It may be the barks of certain stray dogs...

to instantly teleport me back to Chiangmai.

I miss chiang mai so much.
I miss the carefree-ness, the smiles so much.
I miss having to worry about nothing.

I've a classmate who went to Chiangmai to be a teacher upon finishing her diploma. Reading her journey filled with classroom moments, voluntary sessions and the innocent, carefree lifestyle really inspired me to put everything down to pursue the same lifestyle...

Sometimes i really wish i could do something meaningful, something extraordinary, in my youth.

To give up the usual university or work route people take and commit yourself into community work and life in a total foreign country really takes a lot of courage, money... and many others.

If i could, i really wish i could travel around the world, learning and adapting into different culture and at the same time, contribute something back so at least i've put the best time of my life into good use.

Something that will perhaps, strengthen my attitude towards life, something that i won't regret.

Anyway i've been trying to pick up Thai online but it's been going NOT GOOD!

And my effort to maintain confident and heipi from a certain self-help book on how to be heipi seems to last for quite awhile.

Whereas the people around me seems to be falling sick or injuring themselves. HAHA!
Must really be more careful lately.
Speedy recovery to Fang, Yan, Kai, Cheryl ar.

Okie jiayou.

To be under those clouds...

Very cute hor? Obviously i didn't take them but i forget where i got that from. :/
But those clouds reminded me so much Chiang Mai.

i've been trying my hardest to wake up on time and to refrain cabbing. It's been the 2nd day already, so far so good.

i'm also trying not to spend more than 6bucks per day since i'll be going to Bangkok next month.
it's really hard cause i have so much things to buy and it's been really long since i bought any new camera / bags... everything ever since i started working.

Okie i'm guilty of all those cabbing lah. But still...

Okie overall i'm trying my hardest to be contended and positive.
